Day One - On our first day of travel together, our destination is the Drury Inn in Marietta, Georgia, our home for the night. Drury Inn's are offering their guests an incredible array of amenities including: arrival refreshments, complimentary in-room coffee, deluxe continental breakfast (hot & cold), 60 minutes per night, per room free long distance and evening beverages (beer, wine, mixed drinks, soda, etc. may be unavailable on Sunday due to local statutes) and the all new for 2010 FREE 5:30 KICKBACK! from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Drury is increasing their evening food offerings to always include salad and baked potato bar, snack mix, chips and carrots and celery. There will also be items such as egg rolls, meatballs, breaded chicken strips, buffalo-style chicken wings, and chili dogs offered on a rotating basis. We will call this our "Drury Dinner". The delicious, deluxe continental breakfast Drury has always offered will remain the same.
Day Two - Today we travel to Paducah, KY, passing through both Chattanooga and Nashville TN, with interesting sights to see. During today's travel we will visit Chattanooga, TN where we will ride the Incline Railway to the top of Lookout Mountain. At the top of Lookout Mountain you can find many Civil War points of interest and see seven states. We will stay for 1 night at another great Drury Inn in Paducah. We'll enjoy the same fantastic amenities as listed in Day 1, including "Drury Dinner". After a busy day of travel it will be nice to relax and enjoy our comfortable hotel this evening. Be sure to enjoy the deluxe continental breakfast in the morning. (alcohol drinks may have small fee in KY, per local statute).
Day Three - Today we travel to the Capital of Illinois, Springfield. As our travel continues we will pass Nashville and have an early arrival in Springfield, IL. We will stay 1 nite at the Drury Inn with all their great amenities, as usual. We will visit the Lincoln home (the only home he ever owned) National Historic Site where you can follow in the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln and explore the historic four-block surrounding neighborhood. Restored to it's 1860 appearance, visitors can learn about his neighbor's and view exhibits about the area's restoration and preservation. We will also see the old and new Capitol's of Illinois in Springfield.
Day Four & Five - Upon our departure from Springfield we will visit the Wisconsin Dells. We will stay 2 nites at the Best Western Ambassador Inn with indoor pool and full, hot breakfast included each morning. We will enjoy the Hillside Studio and Theater tour to include some of his distinctive buildings. We will stop for lunch on your own at the the Wisconsin-based Culver's. If you like ice cream, you must try the frozen custard! Then, a scenic ride along the WI River will bring us to our next attraction, "House on the Rock" in Spring Green. This unique house is the grand vision of Alex Jordan, who believed that sights and sounds were the most effective means of stimulating the senses. We will be able to tour the 3 different sections at your own pace. You will find everything from the most intricately detailed doll house collection to the world's largest indoor carousel. From here, the journey continues as we travel to the twin cities of Superior, WI & Duluth, MN.
Day Six - In Superior, WI we will stay 1 nite at the Holiday Inn Express with Hot/Cold Deluxe Continental Breakfast included.
Day Seven & Eight - Before leaving the "twin cities" we are boarding the Vista Queen for a tour of the Superior-Duluth Harbor. We'll pass by some of the world's largest grain elevators, Great Lakes freighters, ore docks and the open span of the Aerial Lift Bridge. After the cruise we are headed for Thunder Bay Ontario Canada (passport required). Here, we will stay 2 nites at the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel & Suites located in historic downtown Thunder Bay within view of Lake Superior, continental breakfast included. Decorated with yachts and cruise boats, Marina Park is located just across the street from the hotel, and provides a picturesque view of the seascape and its activities.
Day Nine & Ten - Today we return to the United States and it is an excellent day for beautiful scenery traveling along the north shore of Lake Superior.
